Staffing

"I started working with people with disabilities when I was 16 years old, and I have never believed that any other profession could be more challenging or more fulfilling."

The above statement by HIL's President reflects the basic company philosophy. It is this same commitment, dedication and sense of fulfillment that we hope to foster in each employee.

Training

The staff providing direct care supports to the people we serve make all the difference in the person's quality of life. Employees receive coaching, modeling, support, oversight and backup from HIL's supervisory staff. Most of the supervisory, management, and other administrative staff members employed by HIL were previously direct care employees, so they have a good understanding of the needs of the people we serve, as well as the staff charged with caring for them.

HIL provides formal and on-the-job orientation training for all new employees and ongoing training for all employees. Training includes topics such as resident rights, issues concerning specific areas of disabilities of the people we serve, administration of medications, dietary needs, first aid, fire safety, standard precautions, how to prepare and carry out Individual Service Plans, how to respectfully care for the personal needs of people who are disabled, and other trainings and information relating to how to effectively and successfully support the people in our care.

Compensation

Wisconsin has a very tight labor market. HIL's salary and benefits are competitive with others in the field. Benefits include health, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, unemployment insurance, sick/personal leave, paid holidays, vacation and a 401K retirement plan. HIL allows sick leave to be used for personal leave in order to make it easier for people who have family responsibilities. Vacations are generous. HIL is an ESOP company, so each employee has not only a responsibility to provide the best in care, but also gets the benefit of being a partial owner.

HIL looks first to its own staff when promotional opportunities occur. This is an added incentive for staff to grow and learn.

Employment Opportunites

  • Thinking about making a change? Make a difference in the lives of others! For more than 20 years HIL has been serving adults who are developmentally and physically challenged. Our company is recognized as a leader in our industry. We are committed to the residents we serve and to our employees. HIL fosters a "career path" philosophy. We encourage loyalty and longevity by offering a variety of employment and advancement opportunities. HIL is proud to be an employee-owned company through participation in an ESOP program. Our residents live in small group homes or apartment settings, which allows for individualized attention and support.

  • Independent Living Assistants aid individuals with the activities of daily living, behavioral programs and recreational activities. There is a complete orientation program for new employees, as well as ongoing educational opportunities. Other positions which may be open include the positions of Senior Living Assistant, Assistant Manager, and Manager. Most programs are staffed 24 hours a day with three shifts, so a variety of work times is available. Part-time and temporary work is often possible, as well as full-time.
  • A comprehensive benefits package for full-time employees (30 hours or more per week) includes paid training, vacation, sick leave/personal days, holiday, medical/dental/vision insurance, life insurance, short-term disability coverage, flexible spending accounts, a 401K retirement plan, free meals, and much more!
